A future where
life thrives
together.

We envision a future beyond the current 'Anthropocene' where humanity and all forms of life thrive together, where technology serves to integrate with ecological systems and where deep understanding of ecological processes and functioning have become an integral part in environmental activities and decision-making.

At the interface
of ecologic knowledge
transfer.

With Biocene Rising, we work at the interface of knowledge transfer in ecology and human-environmental systems, environmental information infrastructure and data science. We provide training in species monitoring, processing, analyzing and interpreting wildlife survey and ecological data, provide data for impact, synthesize complex knowledge of human-environmental systems and provide output tailored to audiences in science, policy or the public.

Our Activities

Integration of complex ecological data — information infrastructure

Species monitoring data and associated context information is essential in conservation planning, environmental decision making, policy and management. Great apes play an important role as flagship and umbrella species for wider biodiversity and habitat protection in sub-Saharan Africa and southeast Asia. The IUCN SSC APES Platform serves as archive for field survey data and also provides standardized information on many sites where great apes occur. We compile, process and standardize species data and information for transformation into actionable insight and use in scientific publications or reports for policy support.

Ape Institute

Knowledge on ecology and human-environmental systems needs to be available at locations where it matters. This is often not the case. With the initiative for an 'Institute for Great Ape Conservation Science' we work towards enhancing local expertise and expand professional opportunities for scientists and practitioners in ape range countries to develop innovative, locally-driven conservation solutions to ensure the survival of great apes and protection of their habitats.
